New Mineral Collecting Book
July 31, 2012 01:07AM
A new Mineral collecting book has recently appeared on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.com. It is titled "Rockhounding Pennsylvania and New Jersey" A Falcon Field Guide, by Robert Beard. It is set to be released in January, 2013. Has anyone heard about this book, or have any inside knowledge of its contents? According to the brief preview on Amazon, it says it has 289 pages covering 99 different collecting sites in NJ and Pa. , including many little-known locations. It sounds very interesting, but I have to wonder if it will be just another "Gem Trails" book, where over half of the sites are no longer accessible. Any thoughts or feedback??

We need guidelines on how to evaluate a locality guidebook. This, however, almost always requires that one actually look into it before buying it, which is practically impossible to do when buying online or from a catalog or anytime that the book is not at hand. I am very reluctant to buy any new book without knowing something about it first.
