Field CollectingOsosoft's Mineral Label 5.0 Links

2nd Sep 2014 18:41 UTCVitya

Just came across this software called Ososoft's Mineral Label 5.0. It seems it was designed for older versions of Windows and I tried accessing their website directly:

http://www.osomin.com/MINLABEL.HTM

However it appears to be down and not functioning. I was looking at Bob's Rockshop (http://www.rockhounds.com/rockshop/minerallabel.shtml) as a mirror site/link but I can't find a download link there as it redirects to the Ososoft mineral website link. I was wondering since it is Freeware whether anyone can share a link to it as this is one software I would like to take a look at as I have seen it mentioned before.

Not sure how up-to-date Bob's Rockshop is. I used to go there to see the "geology news" links, but they haven't been updated in a while. It used to be updated at least weekly, so, who knows. I also think a lot of the links on the "links pages" are out of date. Either Bob is getting up there in age and not able to do as much as he once did, or just has other priorities now (can't imagine that happening). Still, the site has it's uses as a starting point for looking.

This goes back to 2005, so you are on your own with the installation and if they got the right bits saved..

Thanks David I didn't really consider using the Web Archive tool on this but it appears both the Manual and the Installation file links work. I will check them out a bit later and see whether they work properly with Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1.

I also noticed that they recommend or mention as the most common and popular label being the Avery 5160. I will have to look into that label for cataloging as well.

Thanks again I appreciate the input/comments.

George Campbell ran the Ososoft mineral dealership and closed up shop several years ago, selling the specimen inventory as a single lot on eBay. From information on , I infer that that occurred in 2007, which sounds about right. It also sounds like George is still around, though not dealing in rocks.

I've finally had a chance to try out the software and I am liking it. However there seems to be a big learning curve and I have noticed that you cannot edit individual labels on a sheet but rather print the same label for a sheet.

Is it recommended to include the collectors name when making a label as I have seen some collectors omit it and others include it. I am still trying to understand this software fully and hope to get acquainted with it more. I did throw out a couple pieces of paper so far as due to mistakes with printing and labels.
