Field CollectingBadu Hill Llano Texas

25th Dec 2016 20:15 UTCleslee clements

We have been collecting along Fly Gap road and have taken a paid Topaz Hunting Trip.

We love the area. I'm wanting to go to The Badu Hill area. The problem is its Christmas Day and we are just out driving the area. Does anyone have any suggestions on locations in the area that are not on Private Property for amateur collectors?

Also we would like to find more trips to go collecting with groups.

My husband and I are from Stephenville and I think Ft. Worth is the closest place to join a club.

Thanks Bunches

Welcome to Mindat, Leslee!

You're best bet for Hill Country mineral collecting is to get in contact with Frank Roberts of Baringer Hill Minerals and keep track of when he runs tours to the area. Sorry to say, you'll be hard pressed to find anything that isn't private in the Hill Country concerning collecting.

Also, for a list of mineral clubs in your area, click on the link below to find a club near you.

Good luck hunting!

Hi Leslee,

I still guide digs to several great sites in the Llano Uplift, just not as often (or structured) as I used to. My friend, Erin Balzrette used to handle my scheduling before she left to start her own lapidary business, Tree Climbers Stones. Now it's just a matter of calling me (512) 848-8309 and trying to work out a convenient time to meet up. Yes, Badu Hill is still one of my more popular sites.
