On Tuesday February 12, 2008, an Imperial topaz specimen in matrix from Ouro Preto, Brazil was stolen from the room of Mary J. Perry (InnSuites Room # 240) around 2pm in the afternoon. The specimen consisted of three topazes on reddish brown matrix. The topaz in front of the specimen was very gemmy and was about 2 inches long. There was a small topaz above the large topaz and the back of the specimen had a topaz sticking out from the matrix. The topazes were of an orange color. The total weight of the specimen is about 250 grams (half a pound).

Mary J. Perry is offering a $5,000 (US dollars) reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the theft. The suspected thief is a male, short (about five feet two inches in height), dark hair, stocky, and between the ages of 30-40 years. He has a dark complection and may be Hispanic.
