Did anyone get hit by virus trough Facebook?
I recently got an email telling me that there was a post from Ray Hill ( I think he is active on Mindat group on Facebook. When I clicked on the link "Ray" suggested it brought me to a porn site and at the same time filled my Facebook wall page with the replica of "Ray's" post.
I did some cleaning and I thought everything was fine until this morning when I got another email asking me to accept a close friend of mine as a friend on Facebook. Of course I wanted to say yes so I followed the link and that brought on a page where Facebook said that I had a virus and need to load Microsoft essentials.
I did that and it showed me that it cleaned one virus but if I go back to Facebook I am still blocked and there is a virus or something that is hijacking it;
here is what is trying to go to; [fudle.info]. Anyone seen this before please let me know.
Thanks

I would urge readers not to check out the link! Almost guaranteed to bring infections to your computer. And make sure to download the real Microsoft Security Essentials; don't follow links that others provide, or you may be installing a new set of viruses or worse. Sometimes going to an older restore point is sufficient to cure these sorts of problems. Good luck!

I personally am apalled that somebody linked a virus through my facebook connections. I must apologize to everyone that may have been
hit..I accessed facebook via my son's computer , while I was babysitting there, and in retrospect, I am aware that the teens in the house
being boys, aren't as vigilant as I might be, and moreover apparently travel to areas of the net, I never do...and hence it is possible that via their computer, my facebook was accessed. I am now on my own computer and have had it carefully vetted, and it appears not to be infected.. I have warned my son, now that he is back,

This kind of thing unfortunately happens with Facebook. My brother's Facebook page was "hijacked" and filled with links to various websites, each accompanied by a message specifically written to one of his friends. This in itself isn't a "virus," but is a hacking and phishing script that reads your friends list (and then leads you to virus-filled websites). A similar thing happened on my android phone a couple of years ago and it sent link-filled texts to my contact list. The easiest solution is to take your email address/phone number off your Facebook page by making them "private" or "friends only," and change your password, as it is generally an automated crawler script that finds these vulnerabilities in your account.
(also, to weigh-in on the sub-argument here, PCs do have their place, but Macs have a lovely feature that warns you if a website you're trying to visit contains malicious software and automatically blocks it!)

I think in this case they seceded to get me locked from Facebook for good. Although I had three different protections clean and declare my computer clean I still get refused by Facebook with the same message asking me to download Microsoft essentials to repair the malware infected computer. I have the Microsoft essentials already installed and I have Avast and Avira runing all in parallel. So It is as this thing does not want me back mon Facebook, everything else is working fine including my access to mindat and eBay. I am worried they can see all I do and I will not use my banking or any payment on line.
I just tried another computer and as soon I try to sign on to Facebook I got the same message. That is puzzling!
does anyone have some useful ideas???

Mac users are SOOO smug that programers are going out of their way to create ways to destroy them. My personal favorite is the thought of installing the trojan in the keyboard, as the mac keyboards can actually store and run a trojan.
Of course, the main reason to not create trojans for mac users is because they are such a tiny market share, it is not worth their time. May I also postulate that stealing the bank accounts of mac users is less enticing, since they have to buy a new computer when they need to upgrade, that must be pricey.
All kidding aside, come on Ray, man up. I saw tons of my buddies click on that J.Lo nip slip, men and women, young and old.
Beyond the automatic reposting, wow Jonathan, you did everything I wouldn't, so I would highly suggest grabbing AVGfree and giving that a spin on your computer. Or...the REAL copy of Microsoft Security Essentials.
Or...get a mac.

The real problem with Macs is not the computer but, often, the user. Computers are simply a tool to accomplish a task. A lot of Mac users treat them like a lifestyle or worse, a religion. I guess a lot of us are insecure enough that we need to latch onto things we can use to differentiate us from the "unwashed masses" and make us feel somehow superior. I've already got a lifestyle and don't need a religion, particularly one based around a consumer product. Creating this sort of "mystique" around a product was rather brilliant of Steve Jobs, however.
Actually, I think Justin is correct in that the only reason Macs aren't targeted by viruses to the extent that PCs are is that they make up a very small fraction of the actual computers in use, and thus aren't worth the bother for the folks who create and unleash the things. In that sense, they might offer an advantage, provided you can put up with the other users.

I guess any topic we start it ends a time wasting yack yacking forum and quickly loses the purpose other than something to do for those that have nothing better to do!
If you want to talk about Mac why not start a topic on that or even more interesting topic on Mackintosh apples vs Fuji apples.

If you want to keep from getting viruses on your computer (no mater which variety you have) you need to use your brain a bit. The virus you downloaded most likely did not come from Facebook, but from someone who hacked an account with your e-mail, likely Ray's, and sent you a fraudulent e-mail that tempted you to click on an embedded link that which then downloaded the virus onto your computer. This type of scam is very common, and I get them all the time, supposedly from my bank, my airline, Paypal, and yes, Facebook. In short, anywhere my e-mail address is likely to be stored. I do not click through on these links. Never. If I am suspicious that it may actually be a legitimate e-mail I will copy and paste the link into my browser address bar and access it that way. I have, so far, remained virus-free. I'm sure the odds are against me no matter how smart I may think myself to be, so perhaps it's just stupid luck.
What to do after the fact? Even after you have had your computer purged of the offending code, Facebook is likely to have a record of a problem associated with your ISP, which I assume you have not changed. If you can not access your account with them and can not convince someone in their tech support department (if they have one) that your computer is no longer a public health hazard, then I suspect your only options are either to change your ISP or create an entirely new account with them. We could also forget about all this stuff and go back to reading a book in our spare time, but that wouldn't be so good for the economy these days, would it?

But if that book was...maybe...The-Vug.com Quarterly Magazine: Director's Cut, that wouldn't be a bad thing for this man's economy! =)
Also, Jonathan, do you use Internet Explorer or something else? Try Chrome, Firefox or Opera and see if they give you the same issue when trying to log in. I use three different browsers depending on what I want to do.

my only suggestion mirrors Jessie...try setting up a new facebook account and informing your friends from the old one.and if fb gives you a prob with that , then contact them via someone else's facebook and ask for help on your account...they have to be somewhat supportive I would hope...
