There is something about the locality photos that is confusing me greatly. There seems to be a number of (relatively) inaccessible photos associated with at least some localities. For instance, if you look at the Kabolela Mine, Kambove District… [www.mindat.org]
you find a mineral list with just two species (Brochantite and Heterogenite) marked as having photos. OK, but if you click on the info icon on Carrollite in the same list, a photo is shown (contributed by Pedro Gonzales) which seems to be unavailable otherwise…
I also wonder why some photos I added to the locality “Alderley Edge, Cheshire, England, UK
[www.mindat.org]
have simply appeared on my home page despite an absence of mineral photos from that locality, whereas a couple of photos of no better quality to my eyes and submitted at the same time, were immediately attached to the Rockville Crushed Stone Quarry locality.
Admittedly the aragonite photos were ‘new for the locality’, but the Mcguinnessite is already well represented… I am not complaining about my other photos being relegated to my home page only – my talents as a photographer are very limited – but why do some others seem to have no trouble getting onto the locality list???
This is in no way a complaint. I have specimens from many localities that are poorly represented by photos and would like to contribute, if possible. In stark honesty, I do not think my photos are that much worse than the average, although they are far from POTD! If there is anything I can do to render them more acceptable (yes, they do contain dimension data – at least FOV for micros), please let me know so that I can try to do better.
Cheers
Tim
