GeneralBourg d'Oisans, France

30th Nov 2012 03:19 UTCSteve Stuart Expert

I have a specimen of ferro-axinite in matrix attributed to "La Rempe des Commaire, Bourg d'Oisans, France". I can find Bourg d'Oisans in the Mindat database, and its beautiful ferro-axinites, but no reference to La Rempe des Commaire. Is this a mine, quarry, small village or something else? Should it be added to Mindat as a sublocality under Bourg d'Oisans?

Thanks,

Steve

"La Rampe des Commère" is a road leading to Bourg d'Oisans (note the correct spelling).

Thanks, Branko!

Looks like this might have been from a road cut. If I post any photos of my specimen, I'll put them under Bourg d'Oisans. There are already many images in Mindat of ferro-axinite from this area.

La Rampe des Commères is a stretch of the road between Bourg D'Oisans and La Grave, just where the road starts climbing through a deep gorge. ( the name is shown on French maps )

The mineral though is not from the road cut, it's from the cliffs above the road cut.

There's another site known as La Balme d'Auris ( witha similar mineralogy ) just on the other side of the gorge that can be seen from the road.

It was already on Mindat (added in 2009) as "La Rampe des Commeres". Fixed now, and info added.
