Last night we had a wonderful evening as 22 of the MAD ( Mineralogical Association of Dallas ) members drove to Houston to join the HAMS ( Houston Area Mineralogical Society ) for a dinner and meeting in the Houston Museum of Nature and Science. What a great concept to mix the two groups and spend an evening of wine and fine dining amongst the minerals in the mineral hall, as well as the gem vault! All in all there were about 60 of us that attended.
Some members of the Austin group even made it to join in on the fun.
Dave Wilber was the guest speaker and talked about the direction of collecting, a very good speech.
The president of the museum, Joel, joined us for this event also.

What I love is that the two groups are more like "sister" groups than competitors. So many stories were shared and it was fun to walk around and figure which pieces were your favourite five.
The Houston collectors were wonderful hosts and I wish to thank them for their hospitality.

I think it is nice when enthusiasts can all get together and share their common passion and you get a chance to dress up too!
I really do think mineral people are special. What fun!

And isn't the art of FUN a big part of collecting rocks and minerals?
