Techniques for CollectorsAttending the Winter Micromount Gathering?

1st Feb 2010 17:39 UTCHenry Barwood

If anyone is attending the Winter Gathering in Dowling Park, Florida and would like me to bring some micro material to look at, let me know.

Now that my heart is functioning better, I'm cleaning out a lot of stuff I packed away over the years. I have lots of Arkansas syenite micros, as well as all sorts fo phosphates from Alabama-Georgia

Dr. Barwood,

I cannot make it down to Florida; I'm doing Tucson in a few weeks. But, I'd like to obtain some of your Arkansas syenite and phosphate material. I would gladly pay for shipping, plus. Please PM me if doable.

Regards,

Steve Stuart

Hi Steve,

I would be glad to send you a box. I'll probably do this after the symposium. Remind me if I forget (a frequent occurrance these days).

Hi Steve,

I'm glad you're interested in Ark micros. Any chance of you taking some photomicrographs and showing them at Brock on our Apr-May weekend ? I plan to do some for then.

Hi Henry,

Sadly, my yearly spring trip to Florida is usually scheduled about a month after the symposium. It's very difficult to travel so soon after the Tucson show ends.

I do spend 2 months every year down in the sandy state (much of the time is spent near Lake City for the Bluegrass festivals), and I'm curious about any potential micromounting possibilities in the area. Searching Mindat reveals interesting ideas such as a roadcut near Micanopy with Wavellite and Crandallite.

If you meet or know any Florida collectors, I'd really love to contact them and maybe visit on one of my upcoming trips. I also head into your region occasionally, as one of my dear friends lives nearby in Enterprise.

Michael,

There are very few opportunites to collect in that area of Florida. The roadcut is pretty overgrown now, but you can still collect small nodules with wavellite and coatings of crandallite. Next time you are down, let me know and I'll show you some places to collect.

There was an informal FM group in Florida, but I've lost track of it over the years. Perhaps one of the members reading this can give you details.
