Minerals and Faeries

Ciao to everyone!

I'm not using that much forums lately, so i've just noticed this new (for me) part of the Mindat forum: that sounds great for me! I'm going to take soon a while for checking all of the posts and all of the attached files, just to know better about other "mineral artists" here...
Up now, I've known who is, to me, a real artist, who is, plus, an excellent scientist, photographer and mineral collector: I'm talking about Wendell Wilson! Please if you don't know his art yet, look for it, as it's simply amazing...

Regarding me, I'm an illustrator, and rockhounder, beside, obviously, mineral collector since I was a child.
I would like to share with all of yours a bit of my works, just because I feel home, in this forum!

I'm finishing my first book, "FAERIES OF CRYSTALS" (LE FATE DEI CRISTALLI"winking smiley , where i speak about legends, stories etc. about mines and minerals from all over the World. My book tells how Little People (Faeries, Gnomes, Elves but also Dragons) is involved with mineral world...
I'm attaching few spots of illustration from it.

Enjoy! smiling smiley

NB: I do use, in this case, photoshop tachnics plus inks.

Sarah

Sarah, just beautiful and very well done. Love the dragon that is lurking in the background of the second photo.
Glad you found this section of Mindat!

Excellent illustrations Sarah!

On the subject of mythology, I recall reading an article once where workers in Iceland who were building a road refused to make a particular road cut because they believe "evil faries" or some such thing lived there. smiling smiley

You have an illustrious forerunner: Albrecht Dürer in his "La Melancholia": Female figure, thoughtful expression, angelic wings, a perfect trigonal crystal, a raising sun in the rear ground, infinite perspectve, magical abacus, colour spectrum suggested by rainbow.

If you look carefully into the "Garden of Earthly Delights" by Hieronimus Bosch, you will also find well hidden crystals interlaced with human beings.

Please accept these comparisons as compliments!...

I haven't seen very much mineral art that I like, but this is a new twist and visually very striking. I like it.

I did once suggest to Sarah that she do a painting of a Torbernite from the Congo, with a rather ill-looking faery sitting next to it, with no hair.

Not sure she's forgiven me for that winking smiley

THANK YOU so much, to everybody!!!

Your words are very precious to me.... When my artwork is appreciated i'm so happy, and when my "mineral-artwork" is appreciated by mineral collectors i'm even more honoured.
I listen to every suggestion, idea, critic, and i always learn from those.

Jesse: thanks TO YOU! I believe trading is the best thing people have done in ancient time... Everyone is happy, in the end... So you've got your beautiful specimen drawn, and i've got the lovely burmese elbaite and fluorite in my cabinet.. Every time I look at minerals given or traded by friends, my mind goes to the UK, to Germany, to USA in just a second, so that's great, to me!

Jolyon: Actually you did fine reminding it to me! I seriously HAVE to draw that toxic faerie... LOL.... You would be a great partner, for helping with my books!!! grinning smiley

Roger: eheheh.... Yes, you are right, I've "dressed" the faeries, as otherwise american media had not wanted to consider them for publications winking smiley

.......................

I'm also going to tell to you all first, this evening, about a GREAT chance for me! ....I have to make a book!.... It will be the "prelude" for Faeries of Crystals in Italy, so it will be shorter, but still will speak about minerals and faeries, plus a bit of mythology...
This is the greatest chance ever, up now, for me, and it's popped out at the last moment, total casually, in few hours... Fate? Destiny? ...All i know is that i've got just two weeks for make a book but it's such for an important occasion that I will do my best ever!!! Please wish me good luck winking smiley

Hugs!

Sarah

They are putting the pressure on you if you only have two weeks to complete the prelude. Good luck with it.

Please let us know when available. Have you seen www.Blurb.com for publishing your book? You can have your fairies "uncensored" because you make the book as you like it to be.

Cheers,
Jesse
