"Specimens" by Carly Waito

Hi all,
I'm not an artist but I like "Mineral Art",
I've just found this information in an italian magazine, view attachment,
an exhibition of oil paintings in Toronto some days ago.

I wonder if there is a photographic aspect to some of the pictures. I say this because some of parts of some of the images appear to be out of focus. I think it strange that an artist would draw the out of focus parts of a specimen out of focus.

I was wondering the same, Rock - according to the website, they are oil on Masonite... but at first I thought they were digitally rendered...

In effect somewhere in her website the artist states that she first shots different photo of the item and then make the painting from a selected one.

This aspect of "out of focus" is something different from other artwork that make them uncommon.

Actually, the out of focus seems to work and make the crystal jump out of the page, giving the same kind of effect one would see under microscope.

As an aside, her brother is fronts the band "Adam and the Amethysts". In 2006, we took vacation to northern Ontario, passing through Sudbury and out to Thunderbay, stopping in at the Panorama Amethyst Mine. The next year, I found the first Album "Amethyst Amulet" which really summarized a great trip the previous year. They now have another album out, which I am going to get as the first one was quite good.
