Lovely specimen, Steve - and, of course, beautifully painted... Is it one from your own collection?

Sometimes, I would love to see a photo of the specimen too so as to better render count of your representations - and to get an idea of size...

Cheers

Tim

Thanks Tim. And yes, it is in my collection. The malachite pseudo is a bit over 1mm across. As to a photo, you have to remember that there is a degree of artistic licence applied. Otherwise you just go with a photo! So I try to be realistic, but don't necessarily render exactly. In this instance, I used the photo as a guide (to do the initial outline) then didn't refer back to it at all.

Last year, Brunhild Schwertner, Ed Bayley and myself participated in a "Paint Off". We each painted the same specimen from this photo, and here are the results, side by side. Each different, but all recognisable (full process documented here).

Interesting comparison....even from the same photo, each painting seems to have a slightly different view point.
