Alfredo Petrov is an accomplished field collector, author and dealer in rare minerals, who also guides groups on international collecting trips and translates mineralogical literature into English. Alfredo spent his youth in England, Germany, Lebanon and finally Ethiopia, where he graduated from high school. During his college days in Southern California, he developed a serious interest in collecting through a part-time job in the Mineralogy Department at the San Diego Natural History Museum. After graduation, he headed for Bolivia where he met Rock Currier, under whose tutelage he learned to make a living exploring for minerals in the jungles and mountains of South America. He now lives in the US and participates in several major mineral shows.
Richard Dayvault is a registered professional geologist employed as a contractor to the U.S. Department of Energy in Grand Junction, Colorado, where he has been involved in studies of uranium and natural gas deposits, as well as tailings remediation work. Dick first became interested in rocks, minerals and fossils as a child, and this interest later led to a Masters degree in Geology from East Carolina University. He has been a consulting editor to Rocks & Minerals for 34 years and has contributed numerous articles to the magazine. While he continues to be an avid field collector of minerals, a focus of his collecting activities for the past several years has been fossil wood, and he has been a contributor and co-author on two important books on the subject.
Les Presmyk is the Principal Mining Engineer for SRP, Arizona’s second largest utility, and has also contributed his mining expertise to specimen mining operations at various localities. Most recently, he co-authored the book, “Collecting Arizona.” Les began collecting minerals at the age of 10. At 11, he entered his first competition and, in 2012, attended his 50th consecutive Tucson Show. Les and his wife, Paula, both graduates of the University of Arizona, have garnered many prestigious awards for their mineral collections over the years, including AFMS Regional and National trophies along with the Bideaux, Lidstrom and Desautels trophies at the Tucson Show. In 1977, they founded De Natura, which is a regular at the Denver and Tuscon shows.
