Mindat locality Butte District (Summit Valley District), Silver Bow County, Montana, appears to have created a lot of unnecessary confusion resulting in many (if not all) of the location and minerals photos to be erroneously attributed to it rather than to the the Butte District proper with its many mines where most of specimens in the photos came from. I suggest it be deleted and its two mines be included in the Butte District locality.
According to the Mineralogical Record special edition on Butte, Summit Valley District was the original name for what is now known as the Butte District with its many mines. Mindat locality Butte District (Summit Valley District) lists only two mines as entries- the Bull Moose (apparently a Fluorite prospect) and the Minnie Healy Mine which the Minralogical records lists under Butte. None of these two mines have any mineral entries but the district boasts 66 mineral entries, 6 site photos, and 185 mineral photos. The site photos are clearly of the Butte District, the external link clearly describes the Butte District proper, and anybody familiar with Butte minerals will immediately realize that most, if not all, of the mineral photos come from mines listed under the Butte District proper and not from the 2 mines with no mineral entries listed under Butte District (Summit Valley District).
The problem arises because most mineral labels state Butte or Butte District as the locality without stating the precise mine. This means that it is easy for people to mistakenly enter a photo under Butte District (Summit Valley District) without realizing that the Butte District with its many specimen producing mines is the correct locality.
