Improving Mindat.orgOlary district SA not NSW

16th Feb 2006 11:54 UTCKeith Compton 🌟 Manager

I note that a locality is listed as Olary district, New South Wales.

I can assure you that the Olary district is in South Australia. Given the remoteness of the area the tourmaline could be from anywhere near here - Olary is near the border but the district at least is in SA.

I cannot comment on the mineral listed or provide further details of possible detailed locality information.

Yes Keith is quite correct here; Olary is in South Australia and I would suggest that the tourmaline is from a pegmatite outcrop on Old Boolcoomatta Station, Olary South Australia.

Locality fixed. What was the mindat # of the tourmaline?

There was a photograph of tourmaline with the mistaken locale information which looks very similar to tourmaline that I have in my personel collection that was originally collected by Don McColl the renowned Australian mineralogist - his label reads "from a pegmatite outcrop on Old Boolcoomatta Station, Olary, South Australia.

Yes Uwe the photograph is in my opinion is a typical tourmaline found at Old Boolcoomatta Station, Olary, South Australia.

Thanks, Neil. I have added a comment to the photograph caption.
