Museu Jobas in Brazil - a warning for potential traders

Please be aware that the "Museu Jobas" in Brazil is a privately-owned collection and not a true museum as it is made out to be.

The "Curator" of this museum, Paulo Matioli, has been trying to arrange exchanges with many individuals worldwide for this museum collection. He claims that it is "Museum Policy" to never send specimens first in any exchange. Of course, as it is his collection and his museum, the policy is simply what he says it is, and it appears he likes to work this way because many people have claimed he has never sent anything in return for the exchanges.

Mindat.org STRONGLY reccommends NOT EXCHANGING minerals with the Paulo Matioli (AKA "Museu Jobas" ) - should you wish to do so please insist on receiving his exchange material first.

I do not like writing announcements like this on mindat, there are very few bad apples in the mineral exchange world, and I hope this will help to make mineral exchanging safer for everyone.

Who do you think is to be speaking this way about me or even the museum where I work and that throw the first stone who never wrong and be judging any people is very ugly and just God only to judge everyone.

For your information the Jobas Museum exist more than 7 years and I have all documents and evidence that the museum exists with a very good job with the community and with schools contributing to the teaching of natural sciences, but I am not and must not be giving any details about the museum or my person to anyone who I don’t know, ok.

You Jolyon in your Mindat site already spoken very badly from my very good friend the serious minerals dealer Gunnar Faeber that make a lot minerals exchange with me for a many years and a very long time and Gunnar have already met and visited the museum sometimes, as well as other minerals collectors friends from Brazil and worldwide.

As I said before I am already solving all my old exchange commitments that I know that I failed, most now come to talk about me or even be investigating or speculating about my life or even put a warning about the museum or my person is really absurd.

Let us stop all this history here that is the best for everyone.

Your museum is simply a private collection. You are the owner and curator. So, when you tell people they must send to you in an exchange first because "it is museum policy", you are being totally dishonest.

I have personal experience of this, you said this to me when you tried to get me to send you rare British minerals. Luckily I did not.

You cannot expect your appalling behavior to collectors over the years to remain unnoticed and uncriticised. Because of this it is our duty to warn everyone in the mineral world about you.

He everybody,
I have edited this message because Paulo Matioli has contact with me, after my very hard words. Perhaps all has been an unlucky confusion between both and we try to find a solution about his shipment for me. I´ll comunicate all this to the forum (if really is impossible to send any mineral from his Brasilian State, Sao Paulo) and, of course, I´ll apologyze if that´s true.

Finally, I have recived a packet with some nice and rare brasilian specimens from Paulo Matioli. I can to confirm that since three years ago the Sao Paulo State´s laws dont permit to sent any mineral specimen out of Brasil. That sounds very rare but is the truth, and Dr Daniele Atencio said me the same that Matioli.
Paulo has been last june in Minas Gerais and he has sent from there some of the packets without problems. Thanks for all, and I am sorry for my doubtes about you, Paulo.
I hope in a few time he can to sent all his old obligations with other collectors.

In this days I have received problems from the person Paulo
Matioli, he have order to me at 1200 euro of meteorites
promise a friend here in Italy pay me first, I have to give
the meteorites to this friend and after this give the
meteorites to Matioli. I have say ok, I have give a discount
on the price and a meteorite free over. I have contact this
friend, seen I know, but he have say immediatly he are not
interested in this type of transictions. After this Matioli
have start to change the order, passing from 1200 euro order
to a 720 euro order and claiming a discount of at 250 euro
and a R chondrite of 100 euro in gift. Sure....after have
say I never give similar discounts, only if the order is
very high, he have change again idea changing again the
order...when I have lost totaly the patience and I have say
if you want this is the price or goodbye, I have close the
order with the excuse the tax for the bank transiction is to
much high to Italy - 10 euro - and why the friend here in
Italy not give a hand to this affair.
A my advise, if this person contact you, forget it its only
time lost

There should be one rule with Paulo: he must send first, money or minerals. No ifs ands or buts.

I have ask the same to Matioli to show me if is a real serious person and ask to end the order after many times he have change this, but he not have sent any other email to me, just one for say its me I am not a serious person........ In conclusion for me is not a serious person.

I waiting the pieces from this dishonest person since 2006...i can confirm that mr. Matioli is not a serious person.

Gentlemen, Paul Matioli very careful. It uses the museum as the purpose of obtaining minerals and fossils for private collection. And more. There are several witnesses in several loca proving that Brazil's Paulo Matioli is a thief. It uses the museum for minerals and fossils for private collection. Paul Matioli is a thief without any credibility. Seek serious museums in Sao Paulo, Brazil and all will see that Paul is Matioli thief.

Museu Jobas is now called Museu Joias da Natureza ('Nature's Jewels Museum'). I'm wondering why the museum's name has changed.
However, the museum has not an internet site yet.

Paulo M. seems to be a compulsive, pathological collector.

The name "Nature's Jewels Museum" doesn't sound at all like a Natural History Museum. It sounds exactly like a guy I know (won't mention his name here, but he is well known among local collectors) who claims to have a museum, but in fact this is just a private basement with a couple showcases and a few printed labels on the way to his place.
I never had the chance to exchange with Mr. Matioli, but his approach and the structure of the 'museum' look exactly like the other case I personally know...
