Miocene Fossils replaced by Gypsum offered.

I have available for exchange a quite large batch (20+ kg in mass) of matrix specimens of turritellas, gastropods, corals, etc. that have been replaced by gypsum from Broken Cliffs, near Wakerie, South Australia. I am especially interested in obtaining specimens from England, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain etc. in exchange for these.

Howdy Peter,
Just wonder how you managed to obtain such a large amount of these from a restricted location, and were they accompanied with certification to allow them out of Australia?

Hi Mark
These were collected over 30 years ago when the local lapidary clubs were allowed in to collect with no restrictions. I only found these when I cleaned up a shed and found them with all the other Gypsum I have collected over the years. I was not even aware that Broken Cliffs was now restricted and I live in the district.
Cheers peter

Hi Peter.

I'm a mineral collector in Tassie, I'd love to get some more gypsum replaced fossils; I have some Spanish minerals and one or two english ones like you are looking for that i'd be willing to trade for some fossils. Also I have quite a few Australian minerals if you're interested there? Anyway, drop me an email and see if we can't go from there!

Cheers

Hi Peter
Visited Waikerie a number of times of the past 30 years to see my wifes family but never got around to collecting from the Broken Cliffs area until about 4 or 5 years ago. Had a quick fossick around in the old quarry and picked up a few nice fossils for a friend here in NZ. Was always told about the fossils in the riverbanks near Jills dads shack at Lowbank but I'm afraid that the presence of all the snakes along the river kept me from looking too closely.

On the legality of collecting there I believe that the local info centre still advertises it as a fossicking area.

regards
Rod
