Mindat currently lists 20 localities for olenite. The type locality is Olenii (Oleny) Ridge, Voron'i Tundry, Kola Peninsula, Murmanskaja Oblast', Northern Region, Russia. Undoubtedly many more localities for olenite will be discovered as more tourmalines are analyzed.
