Material from type locality Schwaz; crystal structure solved from single-crystal synchrotron data; crystal data: monoclinic, P2/c, a = 27.562(3), b = 5.5682(7), c = 10.466(2) A, beta = 98.074(11)°, V = 1590.3 A3; the cell is similar to that of "clinotyrolite", a mineral not approved by the IMA.

Structure description: The structure is based upon 2 nm-thick copper arsenate layers with complex architecture; there are five Cu(II) sites. The layers are insulated by Ca2+ cations, CO32- groups and H2O molecules. The layers are held together by hydrogen groups.



Since it is well-known that also carbonate-free varieties of tyrolite exist, "tyrolite" may actually represent two or more minerals/polytypes.
