Hello friends:

I have some pieces labeled like Hematite from Alchuri, Pakistan.

Some dealers are selling very similar pieces like Ilmenite.

In mindat data base I can find some pieces labeled like Ilmenite too.

I attach some pictures.

Anybody could help me with this trouble? It's this pieces Hematite or Ilmenite?

What's the exact locality?

Thanks to all.

Hi,

You should check streak (hematite has redish-brown, ilmenite - black, dark brown).

As pointed, streak test on a porcelain plate is a good way to clear your doubt.

Some data:

Ilmenite is not listed in Mindat Alchuri page (although this do not means it could not exist!).

Ilmenite from Skardu District listed in Mindat is usually from Haramosh Mts area: http://www.mindat.org/minlocsearch.php?frm_id=mls&cform_is_valid=1&cf_mls_page=1&minname=ilmenite&region=skardu+district
