Baryte, Ukraine

Can you help make this a better article? What good localities have we missed? Can you supply pictures of better specimens than those we show here? Can you give us more and better information about the specimens from these localities? Can you supply better geological or historical information on these localities?

Baryte
Ukraine

Crimea Oblast', Crimea peninsula, Kerch peninsula, Kerchenskoe deposit

Barite usually in sprays of needle-like crystals there, sometimes reaching 2 to 3 cm but usually smaller, golden or brown. Also in neat spherules. Celestine does not form such crystals at Kerch. See Mineralogical Almanac, Vol. 8, 2005.

Good stuff, Bill. The barite in the clam shell is particularly cute.
