Here will go the best picture of a quartz specimen that we have from Austria and a general description of the quartz specimens from Austria.

Here are some url's to some of the better quartz specimens here on mindat that can be considered for inclusion in the article. These, in most cases are just for temporairy use untill we can get images of the much better specimens that are almost certainly out there. We should also consider that there are probably localities out there with fine specimens that are not even mentioned on mindat. Also in some instances there are sometimes pictures on mindat, of specimens from a locality, but they were so ratty that I did not include them here, but there may also be relly good specimens from there that we should talk about in this article.

Rock, we've got a small problem here I'm afraid.
The specimens posted on Mindat are for the greater part nowhere near the quality of specimens that I've seen in local Strahler's collections.
So for being a reference on the best specimens for the region it's a no go.....man, I've seen Quartz specimens that made my jaw drop and my eyes pop out in awe.....
I'll contact a friend of mine, he's an active Strahler and the chairman of the Pinzgau mineral society, I'll ask if I may upload his photos.

Of course your are entirely correct. But we have to start somewhere and beg people to give us better pictures. Begging is going to become my middle name I think. We will use what ever images we have o get started and if we know there are much better ones out there, we say something like. These are pretty ratty examples of what is out there. Give us some pictures of your good specimens so we don't have to suffer with these.

I could live with that

I've checked a few of them.
I can't say much about the locations. I'm not "into Austria" at all.
I would suggest to pick only specimen that are typical for the country/locality or exceptional and remove the others.
I feel very uncomfortable doing this.
It is a safe way to make yourself enemies.

For brevity, I use a few signs and abbreviations.

NMTS Not much to say about it. Neither typical nor exceptional.

IMQ Image Quality only so-so
For some of the images "so so " is still flattering.

After I've gone through most of the others, I think I will only suggest
which ones to pick and leave the others out.
Otherwise I have to say "this one is bad, because..." , "this one is bad, because...", "this one is bad, because..."
and I hate to do that.
Unfortunately the image quality is generally not very high and many good specimen have been photographed in front of a really odd background.

Thats good news. Looking at the number of quartz localities from Austria one almost would think the entire damn country must have quartz crystals falling out of every outcrop. After we get going on this article with some pictures in place, I hope a couple of real Austrian quartz nuts will check it out and tell us where we screwed it up, and what we missed and so on. Ideally that is we want to happen. After being run through the mill by a few Austrian quartz nuts, and about 75 edits, the article will probably be pretty good. A brutal and tedious process for sure, but it will produce good results.

Just wanted to mention that I have seen killer specimen from the area Ritterkar/Ritterkopf.
They are at least 2 quality steps further up like those pics here. They look like this one [www.mindat.org] but specimen, not loose xtls.
Unfortunaly these collectors had so many problems with their find that they don`t want any publishing. No way to get even a pic.

I've seen a specimen found in the Rauris about three years ago at a friend's house in Bramberg, he bought it from collectors that had to sell it because of certain problems. The big specimen was something in the order of 70x60cm with really big and clear superb crystals, amazing, believe me..
Maybe that was from the same find?

This can be true in fact; it was a really big find. These lucky guys brought home the first part and "had problems" with the second part.
