17th Apr 2014 22:16 UTCskirmante rudzinske

dear all,

I have a question. If I would like to buy a book about gemstones and raw gemstone- minerals of the world. what book/enciklopedia you would recommend me? with many pictures and many sorts of speciments? what is the newest, biggest and the best paper version at the moment?

I want to buy it for myself:)

thanks for any advice.

Walter Schumann has one that seems pretty comprehensive to me. Go to visit some libraries, see what they have on the shelves. That'll give you a better idea of what is 'out there'.

An old classic: Max Bauer: Precious stones (Dover). Poor illustration and backward about fakes and syntheses, but good to have.

You will never find a book anywhere as comprehensive as Mindat and Gemdat!
