Formula:
NiSe

2
A variety of Penroseite

The phase was identified by Franz and Wetzenstein ("Natuerliches kubisches NiSe2 von Caracoles, Bolivien," Naturwissenschaften, 72, 655-656.) by the similarity of its PXRD pattern to that of JCPDS 11-552. The authors state it is optically indistinguishable from penroseite. The JCPDS 11-552 card is currently declared as synthetic penroseite and deleted by JCPDS 41-1495, which is natural penroseite from type locality.
