| Name: | Named by Charles Upham Shepard in 1851 from the Greek eu and manos for "good" and "rare". Dana (1851) suggested that eumanite was brookite, but the crystallographic and physical descriptions suggest that the mineral was actually columbite-(Mn) or tantalite-(Mn), which would have been new species if properly characterized. | ||
