Name:The name honours the memory of Martin Alfred Peacock (1898-1950), Canadian mineralogist and crystallographer, Professor of Mineralogy (1937-1950), University of Toronto, for his many contributions to the study of mineral sulfosalts, culminating in the posthumously published Atlas of X-Ray data for the ore minerals. Peacock was an eminent morphological crystallographer and a pioneer in X-ray mineralogy in Canada. The name is for Latin pavo (= peacock).
