Name:Named from the Greek 'ριπιδοζ', meaning 'a fan' for its habit.
A variety of Clinochlore

Originally a ferroan variety of Clinochlore described from Akhmatovskaya Kop (Achmatovsk Mine), Nazyamskiye Mt, Zlatoust, Ilmen Mts, Chelyabinsk Oblast', Urals Region, Russia. Ripidolite has been historically used as a name for intermediate and undetermined members of the chamosite-clinochlore series.
