A variety of Nephrite
A variety of tremolite jade (white jade), which varies in colour from white to yellow, gray, pale blue and light green. The colours are due to inclusions of iron oxides (yellow), graphite (grey), and chlorite, epidote or serpentine group minerals (pale blue and light green). Some of the material from the historic occurrence at Yuchuan in Lantian County of Shaanxi Province is intergrown with serpentine group minerals, mainly antigorite, which give it green patterns or a green banding. Apart from the pure white and yellowish white varieties (mutton-fat jade), the pale blue material is the most valuable.
