Bolivianite

Name:For the country of occurence, Bolivia. (Up until the early 1990s the material had erroneously been ascribed to Brazil.)
Synonym of:Ametrine

A name promoted in Bolivia for the quartz gem variety "ametrine". This name is used in Bolivian dealer advertizing, souvenir shops and tourist literature, but is not recommended because of confusion caused by the name's previous application to various poorly defined sulphide minerals. (See: Bolivianite (of Pauly), Bolivianite (of Breithaupt).)
