Sodic-ferri-clinoferroholmquistite was first described by Caballero et al. (Amer. Mineral., 83, 167-171, 1998) as ferri-clinoholmquistite from the Pedriza Massif, Spain (IMA1995-045) with the composition ◻Li2Fe2+3Fe3+2Si8O22(OH)2. Later it was renamed by Mandarino (Mineral. Rec., 30, p. 325, 1999) as sodic-ferri-clinoferroholmquistite based on the IMA amphibole nomenclature (Leake et al., 1997) because its total (!) Na content > 0.5 apfu. However in the Spanish sample sodium is distributed between A and B sites, i.e. Na(A) = 0.44 apfu and Na(B) = 0.30 apfu so the ideal formula of Caballero et al. (1998) is correct. Later Oberti et al. (Can. Mineral., 41, 1345-1354, 2003) described a new amphibole (ferri-clinoferroholmquistite, IMA2001-066) from the same locality which has the same end-member composition as described by Caballero et al. (1998). It is no longer considered a valid mineral.
