Formula:
Ca3Al2(SiO4)3
Name:
After the Tsavo National Park, Kenya, which lies near the type locality in Tanzania, along the Kenyan border.
A variety of Grossular

A green chromian, vanadian Grossular.

5 chemical types were recognized for the Neoproterozoic Metamorphic Mozambique Belt material:
- vanadian grossular, V>Cr>Mn
- vanadian grossular, V>Mn>Cr
- Mn-bearing vanadian grossular, Mn>V>Cr
- Mn-bearing chromian grossular, Mn>Cr>V
- Cr- and Mn-bearing grossular, Cr>Mn>V
The types differ in terms of their UV-VIS-IR spectra. Fe2+-Ti4+ charge transfer is possible. Trace OH groups may be present.
