Greyish, colourless, hexagonal crystals of panunzite in a 1 cm vuggy area from a 8x8 cm specimen of pyroxene rich, metamorphic ejecta collected near Valle del Diablo on Monte Somma. Originally the rock specimen was about 25 cm. No more than 3 rock specimens containing panunzite have been found, all by the Italian collector Achille Panunzi, so panunzite is an extreemly rare mineral. This was the second rock specimen that was found, and it was found one year after the first type-locality specimen. It was collected about 500 m from where the first rock containing panunzite was found. The specimen is in the collection of Achille Panunzi and it was photographed by OT. Ljostad.
