Hematite, Andradite, Calcite

Locality: Wessels Mine (Wessel's Mine), Hotazel, Kalahari manganese fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa

3.7 x 2.7 x 1.7 cm. Outstanding Hematite crystal surrounded by a ring of gemmy red Andradites that encircle the base of the Hematite along the matrix. The Hematite, which has a brilliant luster, is 2.3 cm long. The lower half exhibits an unusual and striking stepped growth, while the crystal faces in the upper half are mirror brilliant. The crystal has a superb, almost chisel-like, termination.
