A view taken from the opposite side of the quarry, showing the entrance of the newly constructed 'Joskin' Tunnel (named after a row of cottages that originally sat on the site)linked to the 'Old' Cliffe Hill Quarry, soon to be reworked for the 60 million tonnes of reserves still remaining there. The tunnel was primarily constructed,(over a year and at a cost of £4.3 million) to accommodate the single coveyor, that will transfer primary crushed aggregate to the secondary processing plant in New Cliffe Hill.
Dumper trucks will use the tunnel to transfer 4.5 million cubic metres of clay and Marl overburden from Old Cliffe Hill and dump it in the bottom of the existing New Cliffe Hill Quarry. This operation is likely to start in the very near future.
