A very strange thing. A slice of a crystal of Ametrine (a mixture of amethyst and citrine) where it is zoned like a 'radiation hazard' symbol.

According to Alfredo Petrov, this was caused by the original crystal being twinned , and the structure of the two sides of the twin being slightly different, enough that the temperature needed to convert Amethyst to Citrine may be slightly higher with one side of the twin, and the crystal had been naturally heated to convert only one side of the twin to citrine!
