Goethite

Goethite

Elongate well formed crystals of Goethite are scattered over, and intergrown with, sharp prismatic Quartz crystals to create a vuggy 3-D specimen. The Goethite crystals are very lustrous metallic grey, measuring to 6mm length. They are well formed with striations along the length of the crystal and some crystals are doubly terminated. The Quartz crystals are quite gemmy, often with dark red brown Goethite/Hematite inclusions, measuring to almost 5mm. Restormel Iron Mines are well known for producing excellent crystals of Goethite, a mineral which normally forms in very small crystals, or massive crusts. This is a particularly pretty specimen from this mine. With a beautiful old label.
