Old mines near Oruro

Locality: Oruro City, Cercado Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia

The mountain near Oruro town has many old mines. Mining is dominated by small co-operatives digging for silver and tin-ore. Like all areas in Latin-America Oruro has suffered from the plunder and destruction of their mineral resources for 500 years. I took this photo around 1983.
