The crystal measures 1.2 mm in length. The green color, a bit bluer in hue than dioptase, presents the often encountered photographic problem of accurately representating subtle shades of blues and greens. This one appears as a simple text book orthorhombic form, but this crystal is actually twinned. Just to the right of the dark pyramid faces you can discern a v-shaped re-entrant angle indicative of the twinning. Photomicrograph © Saul Krotki 2003. Robert Meyer Collection.
