These crystals occur in cristobalite-filled bubbles in an obsidian. Years ago they were readily available but the locality is now on military property and collecting is strictly forbidden. The late Jesse Hardman shared some specimens with me thirty years ago but I didn't have a good one to photograph. Donald Howard of the Northwest Micro Mineral Study Group recently provided this sharp 2.0 mm cluster on cristobalite for the photograph. Photomicrograph © Saul Krotki 2002 (.0247).
