Calcite, Quartz

Locality: Hutson Zinc mine, Salem, Illinois - Kentucky Fluorspar District, Livingston Co., Kentucky, USA

Calcite on quartz in geode. From the dumps, this is probably from the Salem Limestone a country-rock surrounding some of the zinc deposits that were mined. Geodes are relatively common on the dump but are usually pretty dirty from laying out in the open for 50 years. Alan Goldstein specimen (G547) and photo.
