Kunatite


Kunatite : CuFe3+2(PO4)2(OH)2·4H2O

A photo of the recently approved yellow-green copper iron phosphate, field of view 4mm. This specimen was one of a very small number collected by good friend, John Carey of Bendigo in the late 1980s. John gave me this specimen and the Museum of Victoria one or two. It was recognised as a probable new mineral around that time but there was very little material to properly analyse. This one has been in my collection labelled simply as an unknown Cu Fe phosphate. When it is published, I will finally be able to put a real name to it. I have no idea what name is being considered (and wouldn't say if I did) but it would be nice to see John honoured.
