Iridium, Tulameenite (Var: Iridian tulameenite)

Locality: Jerusalem Creek, Woodburn, Fifield, Cunningham Co., New South Wales, Australia

SEM image of surface of iridian tulameenite micronugget from picture #166597. We see water-n-sand worn surface of medium-grey in BSE iridian tulameenite with abundant more bright inclusions of iridium octahedrons with composition (Ir.81Os.13Rh.06). The later is significantly harder than soft and malleable tulameenite matrix and has positive relief. Black spots are pores, partially filled with clay and iron hydroxydes.
