This specimen comprises massive magnetite, partly frosted with a thin veneer of calcite crystals, and then studded with beautiful and undamaged groups of hexagonal, tabular, bronze iowaite. Jon Gliddon (Open Pit Superintendent at the mine during the 1980s) collected this piece from Bench 29, and commented that this “fine specimen” is unusual in having iowaite sit directly on the magnetite. In fact, all of the iowaite groups sit on the calcite, a fact more readily apparent under the microscope. Iowaite crystals to 8mm. Specimen is 48mm across.
