The granite exposures pictured here are found about 1-1/2 miles above Elk Lake, in the Payette River Valley. This photo was taken in 1986; when I returned here a few years later, I found a large pocket at the base of the large cliff face, just behind the trees at the center of the picture. This pocket yielded several "flats" of fine matrix specimens, consisting of smoky quartz, microcline, albite, zinnwaldite, and one specimen with tiny monazite crystals.
