Baryte, Pyrite, Quartz (Var: Chalcedony)

Locality: US 27 roadcut, Halls Gap, Lincoln Co., Kentucky, USA

Barite is a very rare mineral at Halls Gap (one out of 1000 geodes examined with a microscope). Yet it is in larger crystals found in geodes 8 km (5 miles) away. The field of view is about 3 x 3 mm. Specimen in the collection of photographer Alan Goldstein.
