Tunellite, Ulexite

Tunellite : SrB6O9(OH)2·3H2O, Ulexite : NaCa[B5O6(OH)6]·5H2O
minID: JE1-W2K

Dimensions: 60 mm x 50 mm x 45 mm
Weight: 101.4 g

Sharp glassy somewhat translucent almost blockey tunellite crystals growing on fibrous ulexite. There were probably less than a dozen good specimens found of this type and this may be the best one. They were found growing in long acicular crystals of ulexite that had to be brushed away to expose the tunellite. I got the specimen in 1965 as part of the Denny Sutherland collection. The scale at the bottom of the specimen is an inch with a rule at one cm.
