Salt pans

Locality: Rio Maior, Santarém District, Portugal

The salt pans of Rio Maior "Salinas da Fonte da Bica" are a natural phenomenon in the region of Serra de Aires e Candeeiros Natural Park at about 30 km from the sea. The water from this spring is seven times more salty than sea water: 1 l of water gives 220 g of salt.
