Locality: Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA

Note: The mineral species Gahnite-Spinel Series is not listed in our database for this locality. This specimen may be misidentified or the mindat list of minerals at this locality may be incomplete.

Specimen from the Gerard Troost collection (ca. 1810 - 1850). The catalogue description reads: "Gahnite with wernerite paratine (scapolite), siliceous oxide of titaneum (titanite) and arsenical iron (arsenopyrite), Franklin, New Jersey." This specimen was likely collected before 1825, probably when Troost was living in Philadelphia between 1810 and 1826. It is in the Troost collection at the Louisville Science Center, but not on exhibit. Photograph by Alan Goldstein.
