Leucoxene

Locality: Michelsberg Quarry, Katzenbuckel, Eberbach, Odenwald, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Note: The mineral species Leucoxene is not listed in our database for this locality. This specimen may be misidentified or the mindat list of minerals at this locality may be incomplete.

A 3 mm ferromagnetic pseudomorph of Maghemite after "Titanomagnetite" was treated with 30 % cold HCl for 4 hours and the Fe-oxides dissolved. It remains a (very soft) framework of Leucoxene as a alteration product of the Ilmenite in the former Titanomagnetite. Photograph was taken in water immersion. Zeolite collection of Volker Betz.
