View of Study Butte and its mercury mine in 2010 from northeast. Development is occuring quickly in this area of Texas, near the entrance to Big Bend and Terlingua. Operations here ceased nearly 40 years ago. Currently, guided horseback rides visit the mine and a 9-hole golf course meanders nearby (the greenish grass in the photo). It is easy to make out redish iron oxides and yellowish sulfides on the dumps of processed ore.

See http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/MM/dkm2.html for more history of the mine.
